Privacy Commitment
We built TapTennis.app with privacy at the core. Here's our commitment to you:
Do you track my location?
No. We don't need to know where you are to know what the score is.
Do you access my contacts or photos?
Never. Your phone's personal data remains strictly on your device.
Do I need to create an account to view a match?
No. We believe in low barriers. Viewing a match is as simple as clicking a shared link.
What We Do Collect
To provide the service, we collect:
- Match scores and events (only what you enter)
- Email addresses (only if you subscribe to match notifications or create an account)
- Basic account information (name, team affiliation)
- Date of birth (required at sign-up for age verification — never displayed publicly)
- Graduation year and school affiliation (only if you activate a recruiting profile)
- Parent/guardian email (only if you are under 16 and request a recruiting profile)
We never sell your data. Your information is used solely to provide the TapTennis.app service.
Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
TapTennis does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If a user under 13 attempts to sign up, the account is not created and no data is stored.
If we discover that an account belongs to a user under 13, we will delete the account and all associated data. Parents or guardians can contact us at any time to request deletion of any data related to their child.
Coaches may add players under 13 to a team roster by entering the player's name. In this case, the coach enters the data — no account is created for the child, no data is collected from the child directly, and the child cannot access a player portal.
Minor Users (Ages 13–17)
Users between 13 and 17 can create accounts and use TapTennis. The following data may be collected from minor users:
- Name, email address, and date of birth (at sign-up)
- School or organization affiliation (via team membership)
- Tennis match performance data (scores, stats, results)
- Graduation year and a short bio (if a recruiting profile is activated)
- Parent/guardian email address (if under 16 and activating a recruiting profile)
A minor's date of birth is never displayed publicly. It is used only for internal age verification to determine appropriate privacy protections.
Recruiting Profiles & Parental Consent
Players can optionally create a public recruiting profile that displays their name, school, graduation year, verified career statistics, and a short bio. This is the only feature on TapTennis where personal information is combined with a way for outside individuals to initiate contact.
Players under 16: Activating a recruiting profile requires parental consent. The player provides a parent/guardian email, and we send a consent request explaining exactly what information will be public. The parent must approve before the profile goes live. Parents can revoke consent at any time, which immediately deactivates the profile. All recruiting inquiries sent to an under-16 player are forwarded to the parent/guardian only — the player does not receive them directly.
Players 16–17: No parental consent is required, but if a parent/guardian email is on file, we send a notification when the profile is activated and forward copies of all recruiting inquiries to both the player and the parent.
All players: A player's email address is never shown publicly on their recruiting profile. Recruiters contact players through a form on the site — they never see the player's email. Recruiting inquiries are logged and subject to rate limits to prevent spam.
Players 18+: No age-based restrictions apply. Recruiting inquiries are sent to the player only.
Public Information
The following information may be visible without authentication, consistent with what is already publicly available at any tennis match or on any school athletic website:
- Player names on live scoreboards and match results (equivalent to a public scoreboard)
- Player names on team rosters
- Recruiting profiles (only if explicitly activated by the player, with parental consent for under-16)
Data Retention
Match data is stored to provide historical records and statistics. If you delete your account, your personal information is removed, though anonymized match data may be retained for statistical purposes.
